Thieves Active in the Oil Patch

Low oil and natural gas prices aren’t the only things that energy workers have to focus on these days. How about criminals. The Canadian County Sheriff’s office, in a weekly crime report called Wise Eyes referred to numerous thefts in the oil patch.

The biggest was a pickup truck and welder belonging to Powell’s Well Service that was recently stolen from the company site. The 2011 ford F350 Dually had a Lincoln 250 welder mounted to one side and a Jobsite toolbox full of Poly-ipe fusion tools in the other. In addition, the truck had a Jamie 16-foot bumper pull dovetail trailer carrying a Ditchwitch RT40 trencher. Sheriff’s deputies say the pickup truck was found later stripped and burned in Blaine County. No one has been arrested.

Devon Energy also reported the theft of an air compressor from a site. The 60-gallon Porter Cable compressor was stolen sometime in later January. Workers at Cimarex Energy reported the theft of a 3500 Watt Power Inverter from a site at Union City. It was in a steel box at the well site and the thief or thieves prided the lock off the box and swiped the inverter.
