NewsOK.com and the Tulsa World report WPX Energy is closings its Oklahoma City office. It means 60 employees will soon not have jobs. Thirty-three workers are relocating to the Tulsa headquarters while two others have been offered a position in the Carlsbad, New Mexico office.
“These are always difficult decisions,” WPX spokeswoman Kelly Swan told both publications in a statement. “As a company, we have to live within our means and align the size of our organization to meet these challenges we’re seeing in our industry.”
The employees who lose their job will receive a severance package commensurate with the time they’ve worked for WPX Energy.
The reduction in force comes a day after the company announced it was selling its Piceance Basin assets in Colorado for $910 million.
