The wind-energy firm Siemens has signed a contract to provide another 15 years of service and maintenance at the 152-megawatt Keenan II wind farm near Woodward.

It is the first long-term Balance of Plant wind service agreement in the U.S. for the company.. The customer is CPV Keenan II Renewable Energy Company headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The maintenance agreement covers the collector system, substation, transformers, transmission lines, equipment, fiber optic cables, communications, foundations, towers and access roads.

Mark Albenze, CEO of Siemens Power Generation services, Wind Power and Renewables Business unit said as the wind energy industry matures in the U.S. more customers are looking to his firm for support.

“This balance of plant agreement at Keenan II supports our goal to provide added value to customer such as CPV Keenan II through integrating our service offerings across the entire plant and tailoring them to meet their specific operational needs,” said Albenz.

The Keenan II wind farm became operational in December 2010 and generates enough electricity to power nearly 45,000 average Oklahoma homes. It also avoids nearly 413,000 tons a year in greenhouse gas emissions. The project also has a 20-year power purchase agreement with Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company. Sixty-six wind turbines make up the wind farm and Siemens has a 64,000 square foot wind service distribution center in Woodwar
