National U.S. Energy Department officials are gathered this week in Tulsa for a summit on Indian Energy.

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Indian Energy is hosting the session entitled “Tribal Energy: Strategic Roadmap 2015” at the Reservation Economic Summit. It will continue through July 14.

The last such National Tribal Energy Summit was held in September of last year in Washington, D.C. It focused on “A Path to Economic Sovereignty” and brought together tribal leaders and representatives from federal agencies, state governments, private industry, utilities and others to exchange ideas and explore new and permanent solutions to energy challenges.

Based on the Summit dialogues, DOE’s Office of Indian Energy developed a Strategic Roadmap for Indian energy development. This session will include a status report on the plan implementation and a panel discussion of the various types of infrastructure needed to advance energy development in Indian Country.
The session will be moderated by Office of Indian Energy Deputy Director David Conrad. Panelists will include Sarah Hill, Secretary of Natural Resources for the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and Doug MacCourt, Senior Policy Advisor for the Office of Indian Energy.
