Gasoline Prices Hit Lowest Oklahoma Average since April

gaspricesGasoline prices in Oklahoma are down to their lowest average since late April, reaching a new average of $1.94, according to figures released this week by AAA Oklahoma.

The new average is 3 cents cheaper per gallon than one week ago, making the Oklahoma gasoline some of the cheapest in the U.S.

“If your late-summer road trip will take you due east from Oklahoma, you’re in luck,” said Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma. “The states you’ll be driving through all report low gas prices today,. In fact, statewide pump price averages in South Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama are actually below that of Oklahoma.”

He said Missouri’s average is lower than Oklahoma’s by two cents a gallon.

Tulsa has the lowest average in Oklahoma with a $1.94 a gallon mark, a drop of 4 cents per gallon in the past week.  Muskogee and Bartlesville have averages of $1.85 each.

The highest prices in the state are in Guymon with an average of $2.05 and in Stillwater where the average is $2.04. Guymon’s average rose 3 cents in the pas week while the average in Stillwater dropped by a nickel.

Oklahoma’s average hasn’t been this low since April 27 when it stood at $1.93. But that’s a far cry form the $1.34 average the state had on Feb. 13.  As for the highest average, that happened July 16, 2008 when it came in at $3.9555 a gallon.

National pump prices have fallen for 43 of the past 44 days, dropping 22 cents during this span. The national average price for regular gasoline sits at $2.21 per gallon, which is the lowest mark since April and the lowest price for this date since 2004. Today’s price is five cents less than one week ago, 15 cents less than one month ago, and 56 cents less than the same date last year.
