Aerospace industry giant, Boeing, confirmed on Friday that the company issued 60-day Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) layoff advisory notices to some Oklahoma City employees.

Boeing currently employs around 2,500 employees in the Oklahoma City area. The layoff news follows a July 13 ceremony acknowledging 800 new local employees while dedicating a new 290,000 square foot facility near Tinker Air Force Base at a cost of $80 million.

“Boeing is still committed to doing business in Oklahoma,” said Hogan.

Without disclosing the exact number of affected Oklahoma employees, the aviation company stated it will utilize redeployment, retirement and attrition to assist with meeting Boeing’s goal in order to remain competitive.

“We will provide transition assistance to the affected employees. While we pursue these specific reductions, we continue hiring for other positions,” Boeing said in a statement.

Specific layoff details have not been released. Although the WARN notices were sent companywide, it is anticipated that most will impact Boeing’s defense and space contract business.
