Environmentalists Angry Over Trump Plans to Shift Budgets

The Trump administration’s plans to shift $54 billion from federal agencies to the Pentagon has disappointed environmentalists.

Alex Taurel, deputy legislative director at the League of Conservation Voters said it will “Make America Sick Again,” using a play on Trump’s campaign slogan.

She told The Hill the president’s spending plan would put “polluters first over the health of everyday people in this country. Trump’s rigged budget would stack the deck in favor of Big Oil and other corporate lobbyists who want to take the cops off the beat that protect clean drinking water, healthy air, and a safe climate for all people in this country.”

Others with environmental groups reacted similarly.  Elizabeth Thompson, who is vice president of political affairs at the Environmental Defense Fund called it a “reckless budget” and said it would give “polluters a license to pollute without consequences.”

The Hill quoted Lisa Gilbert with Public Citizen as calling the budget a “corporate robber baron wish list.”
