When he went before a U.S. Senate subcommittee hearing this week, Oklahoma Turnpike director Tim Gatz made it clear that states need more help from the federal government in maintaining and improving the nation’s highways.
“The conditional deficiencies of a long underfunded national transportation system cannot be resolved by the States along and requires an increase and congressionally influenced federal investment level combined with a long-term national transportation network improvement strategy,” stated Gatz at the start of his testimony.
He went before a hearing of the Senate Environment and Public Works transportation and Infrastructure subcommittee chaired by Oklahoma U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe.
“Long term, consistent federal funding remains vitally important to the development and delivery of transportation improvement projects,” said Gatz. “States must be able to anticipate the availability of resources in order to properly plan, design and construct projects.”
