Oklahoma Still Has Some of the Cheapest Gas in the Country

Gasoline prices now average $1.97 a gallon in Oklahoma, the third lowest state in the nation according to new figures from AAA Oklahoma. However, the average is a penny higher than a week ago.

Oklahoma is behind South Carolina where the average is $1.90 and Alabama where prices average $1.96 a gallon.

Gasoline prices in the state haven’t been this low since 2005. The cheapest gasoline is in eastern Oklahoma where Wagoner’s average is lowest at $1.76. Bartlesville has a $1.81 average while the average in Owasso is $1.83.

Highest averages are in Woodward where the average is $2.14; Mustang at $2.13 and in Ada where the average is $2.08 a gallon.

AAA Oklahoma’s Chuck Mai says gas prices fell in 46 states over the past week with increases reported in Illinois, Oklahoma and Washington, D.C.

“The combination of lukewarm demand and increased gasoline and crude output continues to put downward pressure on gas prices,” said  Mai. “While holiday gasoline demand is likely to reach new highs, it will probably not be enough to cause a significant increase on the price of gasoline in the coming week.”

Of the two major metros, Tulsa’s average is $1.85, down 18 cents from a month ago and 12 cents cheaper than one year ago. The average in Oklahoma City is $1.97, a drop of 12 cents in the past month and 8 cents lower than last year at this time.

The national average is $2.23 a gallon, a drop of 4 cents compared to one year ago.
