Anadarko Basin Added to Government’s Monthly Drilling Map

The wild growth of shale oil exploration in Oklahoma has prompted the U.S. Energy Information Administration to add the Anadarko region to its monthly drilling report.

Most of the Anadarko basin is in Oklahoma. Twenty-four counties in Oklahoma and five in Texas make up the area. But more than 10 percent of new wells drilled in U.S. shale basins, enough to get the attention of the EIA.

“The Anadarko region accounts for approximately 450,000 barrels per day of oil production, 5.7 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas production, 13 percent of new wells drilled, and 13 percent of drilled but uncompleted wells as of July 2017,” EIA stated in making the announcement. It also called the Anadarko basin a “legacy producer” where there has been increased activity because of the STACK and SCOOP plays.

The EIA said August oil production from the Anadarko was 447,000 barrels a day and it expects production to increase nearly 2.5 percent in September. Gas production will grow as well, going up 1.3 percent in September from an August average of 5.9 million cubic feet.
