Hamm and Trump at North Dakota Tax Reform Speech

” You’re the ones who carry this nation on your back, and it’s time for you to get the relief that you deserve.” President Trump on call for tax reform.

President Trump went before hundreds of energy workers in North Dakota on Wednesday to make his call for tax reform. He spoke at the Andeavor Mandan Refinery, calling North Dakota an inspiring example for the rest of the country.

Appearing with him was Oklahoma City oilman Harold Hamm whose Continental Resources Company has been a major exploration company in the State’s Bakken oil play. Considered to be an energy advisor to the White House, Hamm was brought on stage by the President and introduced to the crowd.

Trump introduced Hamm and called him a “great American success story.” But the President focused the speech on reforming the nation’s tax system.

“The pipefitters and plumbers, and nurses, and police officers — all the people like you who pour their hearts into every penny earned in both the offices and oilfields of America — you’re the ones who carry this nation on your back, and it’s time for you to get the relief that you deserve,” Trump said in a speech covered by the Bismarck Tribune.

President Trump pledged to restore the nation’s competitive edge through tax cuts and reform. He said there is a need for a simple and fair tax code that is easy to understand.

President Trump used the event to place emphasis on North Dakota’s Democratic U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp calling her a “good woman and I think we’ll have your support.” Everyone else invited to join him on the stage was a Republican including the Governor, Lt. Governor and the state’s congressional delegation.

Heitkamp had traveled on Air Force One with the President and said afterward that she was committed to “fixing our broken tax code.”

Trump had his own direct message to Sen. Heitkamp and other Democrats, asking if she was listening.

“If Democrats don’t want to bring back your jobs, cut your taxes, raise your pay and help America win, voters should deliver a clear message: Do your job to deliver for America, or find a new job,” Trump said.
