Former Senate Leader Announces Campaign for Corporation Commission

If Corporation Commissioner Bob Anthony files for re-election next spring as he says he apparently will, then we’ll have a fight for the GOP nomination for the seat.

That’s because former State Senate President pro tem Brian Bingman of Sapulpa announced this week he is running for the seat on the Corporation Commission. He has a website for his campaign, with the theme “Brian Bingman Means Business.”

The 63-year old Bingman left the Senate last year and said in his announcement new blood is needed on the Commission.

“Every residence in the state of Oklahoma has a connection to the Corporation Commission,” said Bingman, who has worked in the oi land gas industry and now is a land management executive for Upland Resources.

Anthony has been on the commission since 1988 and told OK Energy Today, “I plan to file as a candidate on the opening day of the filing period.”

Another commissioner, Dana Murphy has a campaign underway for lieutenant governor and if she is elected, she will have to be replaced with an appointment by Gov. Fallin.
