As crude oil prices gained about 2% on Monday with the summer driving season here and increased hopes for more gasoline demand, Oklahoma energy stocks finished mixed for the day.
Oil prices also rose possibly because nagging worries that the unrest in the Middle East will spread and result in a drop in global oil supplies.
West Texas Intermediate crude rose $1.84 or 2.3% on Monday and settled at $83.38 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The closing for WTI was the highest since April 26.
Brent crude went up $1.60 or 1.9% and finished the day at $86.60 per barrel on ICE Futures Europe. It was Brent’s highest close since April 30.
As crude oil prices rose, natural gas prices dropped on Monday. August natural gas fell 12 cents to $2.48 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Oklahoma energy stocks were mixed in Monday’s trading. While Empire Petroleum dropped more than 4%, Mach Natural Resources gained about the same 4%.
