No letup in drilling activity in Oklahoma

The latest Baker Hughes Rig Count shows Oklahoma’s oil and gas plays with continued strong activity across the Anadarko Basin, a sign of continued high oil prices as the U.S. war plays out with Iran. The productivity adds to the energy independence of the U.S.

The Cana Woodford, the play with the most drilling activity in the state, lost a rig and slipped to a total of 19 rigs. But it remains the strongest in the state.

The Granite Wash was unchanged in the past week with 17 reported oil and gas rigs. Oklahoma’s Ardmore Woodford had a count of 2 rigs and the Arkoma Woodford continued for another week with one reported drilling rig.
Oklahoma’s share of the Mississippian went still another week with no reported drilling activity.

The state’s drilling activity  increased by one rig to reach a total of 45 compared to last year’s count of 55 at this time.

Around the nation, the Permian Basin saw a gain of 4 rigs for a total of 246 in West Texas and Southeast New Mexico where the basin spreads and has attracted some of the largest oil and gas producers in the U.S., including several from Oklahoma.

The Williston which spreads across North Dakota and into eastern Montana was unchanged with 28 rigs. The Eagle Ford of South Texas saw a decline of one rig leaving 42 still drilling in the region. The Haynesville, which encompasses Louisiana and into East Texas experienced a two-count decline leaving 56 active.

The D-J Niobrara in Colorado and Southern Wyoming had 8 active rigs in the past week with a drop of one. The Marcellus also saw a drop of one rig leaving 24 active. The Utica play was unchanged at 12 and the Barnett went another week with one rig.
