Two of Oklahoma’s busiest oil and gas plays have been playing a game of pickup in the past few months. While one loses a rig the other picks up one, then the scenario flips a week or two later.
Such is the case where the Cana Woodford, the oil play with the most rig activity, added a rig in the past week to reach 20 rigs, according to a recent Baker Hughes Rig Count.
Just as the Cana Woodford gained, the Granite Wash lost a rig, falling to 18 active rigs.
Elsewhere in the state, the Ardmore Woodford was unchanged with 2 rigs and the Arkoma Woodford continued with one rig. Oklahoma’s Mississippi went another week with no reported drilling activity.
The drilling activity was included in the Baker Hughes rig count which saw the Permian Basin remaining at 256 rigs, the same count as last week. The Willison stayed at 28 rigs and the Haynesville had no change with 55 rigs. The Eagle Ford also continued unchanged with 44 rigs. The Marcellus play saw no change with a count of 24 rigs and the Utica continued with 12.
The nation’s count grew by on in the past week to reach 563 and the number of oil rigs was unchanged at 433 while there was an increase of one gas rig for a total of 122. The most recent rig count showed a gain of 9 rigs compared to a year ago when the nation’s total was 554 rigs.
