Drought persists in Oklahoma

Yes, Oklahoma drought is still nagging the state and that’s important when it comes to the energy industry in the state.

It affects supplies of water and also increases chances of wildfires that can be destructive to utilities that provide electrical power across the state.

Gary McManus, State Climatologist with the Oklahoma Mesonet reported this week, “Some more recent rains have helped the drought in some areas, but we have to remain mindful of those longer-term deficits. Even where the drought has been dented and removed over the last month, those underlying deficits dating back to July 2025 will have an impact should dry weather dominate for an extended period again. The soils, groundwater, and vegetation has a memory. Any help coming? Well, not much.”

As the map below shows, there might be heavy rains and severe flooding in South Texas, but none in Oklahoma.
