First lawsuit filed over 100,000 acre wildfire in Colorado

Even as the 100,000-acre Aspen Wildfire in southern Colorado burned, an electric utility was hit with a lawsuit accusing it of being responsible for the blaze.

Four residents of Pueblo and Custer Counties filed suit against the San Isabel Electric Association reported the Denver Gazette and its news partner KOAA.

The suit contends San Isabel Electric is responsible for maintaining its lines and failed to do so. The fire started June 29 and a witness claimed a large tree leaned on a power line in the area where the blaze was ignited. Another witness reported videotaping a fire burning near a power line in the Aspen Acres subdivision

The document goes on to say that in the days before the Aspen Acres fire started, people in the subdivision saw fires they say were caused by power lines.
