Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Mazzei might have opted out of an Aug. 3 televised debate with runoff opponent, Attorney General Gentner Drummond, but he’s made a commitment to appear before a Wildcatters luncheon to be held by the Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma.
The luncheon is scheduled to be held August 5 at 11:30 a.m. at the Petroleum Club of Oklahoma City.
Mazzei’s decision not to take part in a runoff debate sponsored by NonDoc and KSWO TV in Lawton was in the headlines in recent days. According to NonDoc, Drummond’s campaign accepted the invitation, but Mazzei did not. As a result, the debate was canceled.
The two are reportedly set to take part in an August 3 televised debate sponsored by News 9 and News On 6. The debate will air at 6:30 p.m. in advance of the August 25 runoff between the two candidates.
The two ended the June 16 primary with neither obtaining 50% plus one vote to win the GOP nomination.
Drummond received 26.25% while Mazzei had 25.97% of the votes.
