Oklahoma Corporation Commissioners on Thursday approved the stage-setting steps for a large load tariff sought by Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company. The final decision won’t be made until early November.
Commissioners voted 3-0 to adopt three proposals including the scheduling of the request, the required publication in newspapers and the granting of a protective order.
The utility filed its request in June seeking to establish a “tariff applicable to large load customers. “The request, as outlined in the filing coincides with the enactment of House Bill 2992 which requires electric utilities to establish and maintain separate tariffs for large load customers “and to ensure that such customers pay the costs fairly allocable to them and commit to a minimum term of service.”
OG&E explained its request was the result of experiencing increasing interest from prospective and existing customers whose electric demand meets or exceeds the statutory threshold for large load treatment, including customers with expected peak demand for 75 megawatts or greater.
With the approval of the three items voted on Thursday, newspapers of record will be publishing at OG&E’s request an official and legal notice of the request and its handling by the regulators. The commission will also move to begin scheduling of the issue and OG&E’s private financial matters will not be disclosed.
Commissioners set a November 3, 2026 date on which to make a decision on the request.
