OG&E offers summer heat help

Summer in Oklahoma often means air conditioners running around the clock, especially in homes where cool air is escaping through gaps, cracks and poorly insulated spaces. To help customers stay comfortable while reducing energy waste, OG&E offers its Residential Energy Efficiency Program for qualifying homeowners and renters.

The program provides eligible customers with an in-home energy assessment and may include up to $3,000 in energy-efficiency improvements at no out-of-pocket cost. Depending on the home’s needs, improvements may include attic insulation, air sealing, weatherstripping, HVAC tune-up and other upgrades designed to reduce energy waste and improve comfort.

Many of these improvements can make a noticeable difference during Oklahoma’s hottest months by helping homes hold cooled air more effectively and reducing the workload on air conditioning systems.

Examples of energy-saving improvements that may be recommended through the program include:

Air sealing around doors and windows: Small gaps around doors and windows can let cool air escape and hot air sneak inside. Air sealing and weatherstripping help improve efficiency and comfort year-round.

HVAC tune-ups: Regular maintenance helps air conditioning systems run more efficiently, improves performance and can identify potential issues before they become costly repairs.

Attic insulation upgrades: Proper insulation helps keep cool air inside during the summer, improving comfort and reducing energy waste.

Smart thermostat installation: Smart thermostats can automatically adjust temperatures based on a household’s schedule, which can reduce unnecessary energy use when no one is home.

“Many customers are surprised to learn they may qualify for energy-efficiency improvements at no cost,” said Toney Cooper, OG&E residential programs manager. “Our Residential Energy Efficiency Program helps identify opportunities to make homes more comfortable and efficient, and in many cases, we can help customers complete those upgrades through the program.”

The Residential Energy Efficiency Program is available to qualifying homeowners and renters throughout Oklahoma. Customers can learn more and check eligibility at OGE.com/Efficiency or call 877-898-1759 to get started.
