When jobless claims took an unexpected increase on Thursday in the U.S. resulting in a drop in oil futures, it was felt by the oil and gas companies with Oklahoma connections and operations.
SandRidge Energy took a nose-dive of 8.70% or 16 cents a share, ending the day at $1.68. Devon Energy fell 3.61% or 40 cents to $10.69 per share.
Continental Resources dropped 2.65% or 48 cents to finish at $17.63 per share. After filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy last weekend, Chaparral Energy jumped 5.10% on Thursday to finish at 5 cents a share. Also in bankruptcy court, Chesapeake Energy plunged 67 cents or 10.47% to $5.73 per share.
Ovintiv Inc. fell 42 cents a share or 3.56% to $11.38. Alliance Resource Partners, L.P. dropped 4 cents or 1.17% to $3.38.
It was like they all followed what happened to oil prices including NGL Energy Partners where it suffered an 11 cent or 2.64% loss to $4.05. Helmerich and Payne had an 87 cent or 4.77% decline to $17.38. Gulfport Energy suffered a nearly 9 center or 11.45% drop to 69 cents a share.
Laredo Petroleum fell 8.14% or $1.32 a share to $14.90. OGE Energy was one of the few to actually see an increase, albeit a small one going up 11 cents or 0.34% to $32.19 a share. Mammoth Energy Services slipped 4 cents or 2.47% to $1.58.
WPX Energy Inc. dropped 2.46% or 15 cents to $5.94. Williams Cos. fell 26 cents or 1.20% to $21.40 a share.
