While President Donald Trump instructed the Justice Department to immediately investigate oil companies for “gouging” consumers, gas prices continue their fall across the U.S. and in Oklahoma.
The latest AAA report showed the U.S. average price is $3.91 which is 59 cents cheaper than a week ago and $1.07 below the average of one month ago.
Gasoline prices average $3.43 across Oklahoma which is 7 cents lower than last week and 55 cents below the average of one month earlier.
The average price in Oklahoma City stands at $3.40 or 53 cents cheaper than a month ago, according to AAA.
GasBuddy reported at least one store selling gas in Oklahoma City at $2.91 per gallon.
Tulsa’s average is $3.37, down 8 cents from last week and 63 cents lower than last month. Gas Buddy cited the cheapest in Tulsa was $3.06 at one station.
Lawton has the lowest city average at $3.35 per gallon.
To be sure, drivers can still find $4 gas in the state. Coal County in the southeast has an AAA average price of $4.10 per gallon. Ellis in the Northwest averages $3.95, according to AAA.
NBC News reported President Trump explained late Wednesday in a social media posting that he had ordered the investigation into high gasoline prices.
“The big Oil Companies are not dropping their price at the pump commensurate with the sharply lower prices they are paying for Oil,” Trump wrote. “Those prices are dropping like a rock! In other words, customers are being ‘gouged.’ I have instructed the DOJ to immediately start looking into this. Gasoline prices better start going down a lot faster than what I’m seeing!” he added.
In response to the president’s message, the American Petroleum Institute, which represents all of the major U.S. oil and gas companies, said the industry “shares the goal of delivering relief at the pump and restoring stability to global energy markets.”
