Oklahoma’s drilling activity saw an increase in the number of oil and gas rigs in the past week, according to the Baker Hughes Rig Report released Friday.
The state total grew by one to reach 44, five short of the 49 rigs reported one year ago.
Baker Hughes reported the nationwide count dropped one to 562. The number of oil rigs totaled 433, a gain of 2 over the week while the gas rig total fell 3 to 121 and the miscellaneous count was unchanged at 8. The U.S. offshore count declined 2 to 8 rigs.
Oklahoma’s count of 44 compared to Texas where the total rig numbers increased one to 261. New Mexico added a rig for 97 and North Dakota remained at 26 rigs. Louisiana’s count fell 3 to 35 and Colorado was unchanged at 11.
The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service Inc. in Wichita recorded a drop of 4 rigs in Kansas leaving 16 still active.
Alaska remained at 12 active rigs and California continued with 7. Ohio stayed at a count of 11 rigs. Pennsylvania saw no change with 17 but Utah’s count fell one to 12. West Virginia went another week with 8 rigs and the count in Wyoming was unchanged at 16.
The nation’s total is 7 higher than a year ago when there were 555 rigs. In the past year, there has been a decline of 6 oil rigs and a gain of 8 rigs while the miscellaneous count grew by 5.
