A $350 million water improvement project at Kaw Lake in northern Oklahoma has been completed and formally dedicated.
Officials gathered recently for an official ribbon-cutting of the Kaw Lake Water Supply Treatment Facility, marking the final major component of the Kaw Lake Water Supply Program.
As reported by Kay News Cow, one of those on hand was Sen. Roland Pederson, R-Burlington.
“This is a major milestone for Enid and northwest Oklahoma,” said Sen. Pederson. “Water is essential to the growth and future of our communities, and this project ensures Enid will have a reliable water supply for decades to come. I’m proud to have supported this effort and grateful to everyone who helped make this transformational project a reality.”
He said the project represents a significant investment in the future of Enid and northwest Oklahoma, providing a reliable and sustainable water supply for generations to come.
The project means the city of Enid will no longer rely just on groundwater for its water sources but transition to a blended groundwater and surface water supply.
“We are grateful for the tremendous financial assistance provided through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund and other financial assistance programs. We also thank our state delegation and Senator Pederson’s office for supporting funding through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, which helps make critical water projects like this $350 million investment possible,” said City Manager Jerald Gilbert.
Numerous agencies helped with funding including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board and other regulatory agencies and tribal partners.
“The City of Enid and its citizens have made a significant commitment to securing their water future. This project reflects the vision and long-term planning needed to ensure a reliable water supply for generations to come. The Oklahoma Water Resources Board is proud to be a partner in that effort,” said Director Julie Cunningham.
The Kaw Lake Water Supply Program will ensure the long-term availability of water for Enid residents, Vance Air Force Base, Woodring Regional Airport, local and outlying industry, neighboring municipalities and rural water customers.
